Dr. Fisherian’s Runaway Machine is a whimsical, large-scale sculpture by artist Chris Wollard, blending industrial form with playful imagination. Painted in vivid red, the piece resembles a fantastical walking contraption mid-stride, sparking curiosity and inviting passersby to invent their own stories about its origins and destination. Installed at Crane Cove Park, the work’s bold color and dynamic stance will create a striking visual anchor against the park’s open waterfront setting, drawing visitors from afar and offering a memorable photo opportunity.

About the Artist

Chris Wollard is a Tulsa, Oklahoma–based sculptor who works primarily with metal — shaping steel, stainless, and aluminum into sculptures that feel both familiar and unexpected. He holds a BFA from teh University of Memphis and brings a background in welding, blacksmithing, metal fabrication and automotive sheet metal shaping to his hands-on creative process, blending traditional techniques with imaginative design.

Create creates both public art and award-winning art cars, many of which have been featured on television and showcased in parades and festivals around the country. Whether he’s welding in the studio or cruising around in one of his retro-futuristic art cars, he approaches his creative life with a mix of playfulness, precision, and curiosity. His work lives at the intersection of craft, storytelling, and invention — grounded in process, but always open to surprise.
